How long have you been a member of Boys & Girls Club?

I have been a member of the Boys and Girls Club for seven years.

How did you hear about the club?

I used to live next door to one but I didn’t end up joining until later.

How has the B&G Club helped you?

The club has instilled a sense of ‘giving back’ in me. Despite constantly being marginalized throughout my life with the help of the club I have participated in everything from politics to engineering and even industrial design. Today, I can proudly say I am a Youth Ambassador representing district fifteen of Los Angeles. My work and dedication as a youth has been recognized by people like Congresswoman Janice Hahn, Congresswoman Barbara Boxer, Mayor Eric Garcetti and Councilman Joe Buscaino to name a few. I have been granted the opportunity to embark on a life changing experience to Washington DC where I met president Obama’s administration and was able to express my views to them on expanding the areas of STEM to less underprivileged schools. Furthermore with the co-ordination of my principal, I gave back to my community by single handedly writing code for the first universal high school mobile software application, it was the first of its kind ever and made by an African American student. With the guidance of the club, I am also one of three students who pushed the motion for a STEM curriculum to be included in high schools. There are a ton of other projects I am working towards now in the fields of tech,  environmental awareness, and fashion. Most importantly, today I can stand firm and say that with the help of the club I was able to turn any doubt, un-acceptance and low self esteem into steam to power my dreams.

What does the Boys & Girls Club mean to you?

The Club to me is somewhat of a social accelerator; It is a place where teens can come in and better their skill sets and apply them to make a difference in their community. The Club to me is a beacon and a safe haven.

What achievements have you had through B&G Club?

I have conquered Public Speaking, I used to be introverted but have now adapted to more of an extroverted personality. I have also been able to channel my skill sets by interning with companies like Boeing,  Raytheon and political figures such Congresswoman Janice Hahn, Barbara Boxer, Maxine Waters, Joe Buscaino, Don Knable, and Isadore Hall II.

• I have also received the following awards:
• County Of Los Angles Commendation
• Young Innovator Award
• Close Up Washington Dc Achievement
• d2d Scholarship
• Toberman Neighborhood Council Recognition of Achievement
• Bluetooth Awards (1st Place)
• California State Assembly Recognition of Achievement
• Boys And Girls Club Youth Of The Year
• California State Senate Award (Two Years In A Row)
• California State Assembly Recognition of Achievement
• Boys And Girls Club Youth Of The Year
• California State Senate Award (Two Years In A Row)

What is your favorite memory from the B&G Club?

My favorite memory has to be the trips to Yosemite National Park as well as the college excursions at various colleges like Berkeley, Stanford and UCLA.

Would you recommend the B&G Club to other children? If so, why?

Yes of coarse! The Boys and girls club over the years has played a very pivotal role in a lot of children and teens’ lives including mine.

How long have you been a member of Boys & Girls Club?

I have been a member for three years, since 2014.

How did you hear about the club?

I heard about the Boys & Girls Club through my friend in 9th grade; I tagged along to go to the Boys & Girls Club and have not stopped attending since.

How has the B&G Club helped you?

They have taught me social skills, helped me with my homework, and exposed to me to many new opportunities through the programs being offered.

What does the Boys & Girls Club mean to you?

The Boys & Girls Club is like a family to me. They listen to me when I am not feeling well and encourage me to try new things. Because of this I have learned new skills. I also get to share great moments with them like Christmas parties and Thanksgiving Dinners.

What achievements have you had through B&G Club?

Overall the achievements I have picked up from the Boys & Girls Club are life skills. I have learned how to be professional through mock interviews that I have participated in. I also have learned proper etiquette through conversations that I have had with the staff at the Boys & Girls Club. I feel that through these opportunities The Club is preparing me for life after high school.

What is your favorite memory from the B&G Club?

My favorite memory of the Boys & Girls Club was going to a celebrity basketball game at the Challengers Boys & Girls Club. I had the chance to interact with people from Power 106. I also got to attend the Teen Summit, which was pretty fun. I had the chance to meet members from other Boys & Girls Clubs and I had the chance to visit the UCLA campus for the first time.

Would you recommend the B&G Club to other children? If so, why?

Yes, because it is a fun experience, you can learn new skills if you put the effort, and they can help you get to college.

Rastaclat believes in Spreading Positive Vibrations, how do you Spread Positive Vibrations in your life?

If I see people talking in class, tell them to get back to paying attention in class; I try to approach them in a nice way so that they can show respect to the teacher and to themselves. I also always have a smile on my face and always encourage people to come to The Club!
