Ahead of the release of his signature Rastaclat bracelet we spent the day in the Los Angeles studio of Producer, DJ, Professional Skateboarder, & Entrepreneur Kevin Romar. He talked us through the importance of making sure you stand out from everyone else, staying true to who you are, and his passion for music.
Rastaclat: You've carved your own path in life.
KR: You got to stay true to what you are. If you like what you're doing, stick to that. You have to create a uniqueness about you. Something has to stand out, that you're not the same as everyone else. You have to be your own individual self.
Rastaclat: How did you get into your creative endeavors?
KR: It took a lot of learning how to do that. It took a lot of practice, a lot of watching videos, a lot of watching people DJ, going to places where people would spin regularly. Make it into your own though. You take ideas from that and then you go into your own space and you just make it you. Honestly, most of the time I don't know what I'm doing. It's the same with skating. I felt like I never knew what I was doing until I just kept on a path of just, "As long as it works for me, I think it works for everyone else too."
Rastaclat: What’s your approach to the creative process?
KR: It's all a feeling thing. When you get into it, you feel all the instruments that you pick out and then you put them in a space where you feel like you're in space. Your mind takes you there. The drums can be hard. The snare could be poppy. If you record a vocal, you make it fit around how you feel.
Rastaclat: What drives you each day?
KR: Skateboarding still drives me, but music right now is the number one passion for me right now. It's just mixing, making music. It's a lot to handle, but it's a lot of fun. I can't believe everything like this has happened. That's unexplainable and I thank God every day for that, for sure. It's super cool. It's a blessing.
