Kemba Walker
Kemba Walker is a professional basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets. He won the 2018 NBA Sportsmanship Award for the positive impact he had both on and off the court.
KW: My name is Kemba Walker. I’m from Bronx, NY and I currently play for the Charlotte Hornets. Basketball has always been a passion of mine. I remember growing up watching games with my family, going to basketball games in my neighborhood or watching friends hoop. I started playing when I was young...I had never been the tallest person in my class, but never let that stop me. I always loved the game and my goal was to become the best I could be, make the NBA. I’ve worked hard throughout my career and it’s paying off.
Rastaclat: What drives you?
KW: I love the game of basketball, so every time I step on the court I always want to make sure that I give 100 %. In order to do that I’ve gotta be prepared so I’m constantly working on my game so I can give my teammates my all every single game.
Rastaclat: What are you proud of?
KW: I’m proud of the fact that I’ve always trusted my game and worked hard to improve my craft every year. I never let the outside noise dictate what I can/ can’t do. I’m confident in the work I put in and have stayed true to my game.
Rastaclat: What inspires you?
KW: What inspires me now is my platform. I understand the responsibility I have as an athlete, both on and off the court. I understand my story is like so many, and I do my best to provide good, positive leadership and hope for those pushing for the same goals, and more. I want to make sure that every day I come to work, I am on my A game. I know hard work won’t do it for everyone, there aren’t even enough spots, but if I can inspire even one, who gets there, I think I’ve done my job.
